Innovative Lever Handle Design by Indonesian And Japanese Collaboration
Jakarta, August 15, 2024 - Creative energy will always seek new solutions and refresh ways to respond to contemporary lifestyles. This is the spirit and energy of Eko Priharseno, a renowned interior designer in Indonesia, who never allows the professional scope of being an interior designer to limit his creative freedom.
This time, Eko Priharseno received high acclaim and international recognition through the design of a lever handle with a famous Japanese manufacturer, Union Elmes, in a collaboration initiated by Habitus Concept. As an interior designer, Eko has long felt dissatisfaction with the lever handle designs available on the market.
"The strength of JAKKU lies in how its presence not only fulfills functional needs but also contributes to the overall aesthetic of the space and offers a different tactile experience. Its interaction is not only physical but also personal," explained Eko Priharseno, principal of AEDI Design Bureau.
The opportunity to design the lever handle arose during the pandemic when his sketches were developed into a mock-up by Union Elmes with support from Habitus Concept. Through these sketches, Eko sought a design that addressed his many dissatisfactions with existing lever handles as an interior designer.
Numerous limitations did not hinder this collaboration from yielding a product that offers novelty and charm. Geographic distance and the pandemic, which prevented physical meetings, were not obstacles. An ambitious project that spanned two years, with work conducted online between Osaka and Jakarta, finally resulted in the innovative JAKKU lever handle.
Eko Priharseno was inspired by the simplicity of the verb "jungkit" (lever/jack), a solution frequently encountered in the daily lives of Indonesians. The principles of movement and effectiveness of the lever/jack were then developed in design and aesthetics into the JAKKU lever handle, which is not only functionally effective but also makes a significant contribution to the tactile experience and the design of doors and spaces.
In Eko Priharseno's hands, the principle of the lever/jack comes to life, possessing design strength that can better appreciate the broader context of design, becoming an offering to lifestyle itself. Every detail, realized with the highest quality, has received international recognition, as evidenced by the presence of the JAKKU product in several significant projects even before its official launch in Japan in 2023.
The launch of this innovative product by Eko Priharseno took place last year, 2023, at the headquarters of Union Elmes in Osaka, Japan. The launch of JAKKU was a significant moment and a manifestation of international recognition for the work of Indonesian designers, earning high praise. The presence of The President Director of Elmes Japan, Mr. Junzo Tateno, highlighted the importance of this product resulting from successful collaboration with Union Elmes.
Through the initiative of Habitus Concept, the collaboration between Eko Priharseno and Union Elmes was realized, and JAKKU was officially introduced to the Indonesian market this year.
"Realizing the JAKKU door handle with Eko Priharseno was an extraordinary experience. Eko's visionary approach and deep understanding of the philosophy behind Union Elmes' artware production made him a perfect fit for this collaboration. The design process was quite smooth, resulting in a timeless product. With excellent feedback, the JAKKU product has even appeared and impressed in several projects before its launch. Collaborating with Eko Priharseno was truly enjoyable, and this JAKKU product is just the beginning," said Mr. Swamitra Dermawan, Director of Habitus Concept.
The design of JAKKU emphasizes a modern and minimalist style that functionally allows this product to bear maximum load with minimal energy, making it as easy to move the handle as tapping a pencil with your hand. JAKKU has a unique design that combines function with captivating design delivery.
Although initially designed for the Indonesian market, the design balances function and beauty, representing the philosophy of Japanese craftsmanship, which always strives to be seamless and integrate with the space, users, and life.
With five color combination variations and various wood finish options, the JAKKU lever handle has also proven to meet international market tastes with the beauty of detailed products made in Tokushima Prefecture and anodized in Osaka, Japan. JAKKU was officially introduced to the Indonesian market through Habitus Concept as an innovative lever handle with a modern minimalist design, rich in aesthetics, and offering a tactile experience.
